Payson pool

We got to go swimming with Grandpa Howard a week and a half ago. Howard had just gotten a new camera and took a ton of pictures of the kids, but he has only sent me one of Bowen going down the slide. So I didn't get to post any cute pictures.

We got to go again yesterday and had a blast. And I remembered my camera this time.

Sitting around waiting for the 10 min break to end.
Sarah is my little water baby

Tooth Fairy

Breakfast a the Pickering house.
Bowen got a hold of the camera and took some really cute pictures.

I am not very good at telling my kids that there is a Santa clause or tooth fairy or anything like that, they all know that Mom is the tooth fairy and Dad is Santa clause!
So Elijah lost his first tooth on Monday and he was so excited to get his dollar from the tooth fairy (aka Mom). He told me that his tooth will be under the pillow on the top bunk of his bunk bed and then proceeded to ask if I was going to give him his money before I watched my movie or after. The little pest!
So I sent him to bed, thinking I would remember to get the money after the movie, but typical of me I forgot. So this morning he comes in and says Mom you forgot to give me my money. My reply was "go get a dollar out of my purse".
So he did.
So much for the tooth fairy in this house.

I don't know how any parents can keep up the pretense of these imaginary people who give kids free stuff. It only lasted in our house until Crysania learned to ask questions and then the truth came out.

Chess

Moroni has always loved chess and he is passing that love onto his boys.

Friends

Today the kids all had their friend over. I am so glad the kids all have such great friends

Bowen and Nathan
Playing the Wii
Emily, Crysania, and Jessica
Watching the boys play the Wii
The Super Heroes
Brandon, Elijah, and Tucker

Sarah
She doesn't invite her friends over to play yet,
but she is just so cute

Storms

So did any of you experience the storm on Thursday night, we had branches breaking off our trees all over the place. Most of them were small but there were about 7 that were big enough that they would have hurt really bad if they had fallen on someone.
The power went out twice that day for a little while but it was still light enough outside that we could see. Bowen had a friend over and they decided it would be fun to play out in the wind. They headed back by the trees that are behind our house and past the black berry bushes but apparently the wasps were not happy with the storm and the boys walked right by them and started getting attacked. They ran back into the house screaming and brought 8 wasps into the house with them. When we finally got all the wasps killed and everyone calmed down we saw that Bowen had gotten stung 6 times and his friend 2 times. Needless to say Bowen doesn't want to ever go back by the blackberry bushes again, and he wouldn't leave my side or the fly swatter for several hours after.
So we thought all the craziness was over but then friday night after the kids went to bed, we were watching a movie and it was a little windy outside but not nearly as bad a Thursday night, when we heard a big crash in the backyard, we looked out and this is what we saw.

A huge branch had broken off one of our trees, I am just glad no one was out there when it happened.

Weight loss books

So I have been attempting to loose weight...again... but this time I have decided to read some books about not only how to loose weight, but about people who have been successful at loosing weight. I have read some really great books and some not so great books, and one that I read they first page and had to get rid of it, it was so offensive.
So far there are three books that I have really enjoyed and felt I should recommend to my friends and family, they were so good.

"Diabesity" by Francine R. Kaufman MD I have quite a few people in my family with diabetes and I also get gestational diabetes when I am pregnant. This was a great book that taught me so much more about this disease than I had ever learned from my doctor. This was a real eye opener to the epidemic that America is facing as we get fatter at younger and younger ages.

"The Beck Diet Solution" by Judith S. Beck Ph.D. This is a 6 week program that teaches you how to "train your brain to think like a thin person" it has some great ideas on how to help yourself stick to a diet and excercise program, and truly feel that you deserve to loose weight.

"Half-Assed a weight-loss memoir" Jennette Fulda This was the easiest of the three books to read and also the funniest since it was a memoir instead of an educational book. I got about 5 different memoir books, but this one was by far the best of them all. A real insparation to anyone who wants to loose weight. She also has a blog pastaqueen.com if you want to get a taste for what this book is like.

I got all these at the library (but I want to buy the Beck diet solution since it is a 6 week program and it would help to be able to write in the book), so check them out if you have been thinking about loosing weight at all.

Escalante

It is that time of year again, The Benson family reunion is upon us!! This year we went to Escalante state park in southern Utah.

This was the view we had first driving into the park, you drive up a hill and around a corner and BOOM there is a beautiful lake right out of the blue. (pun intended) The water was freezing cold, but the kids didn't mind, they were out there playing in it anyway. If the water would have been warmer I might have even ventured out into it, the water was crystal clear, no mud in sight.

Elijah, Carter and Joshua, the terrible three. We had this great little spot right by our camp that was perfect for little boys to climb and explore in, and no way for them to escape and get lost since it was surrounded on three sides by steep walls.
Aspen and Jody sitting at camp
Meili, Melynda and Dad, hanging out
We really didn't plan on wearing matching shirts, but I had to get a picture of us as twiners.
Saturday we went to The Devils Garden. While we were driving there, Bowen asked what kinds of flowers were going to be there. At first I didn't understand what he was asking but then I realized he thought it was going to be a real garden. We had to laugh and say that the Devil doesn't grow anything and that is why it is called the devils garden, because all it grows is rocks.

Half of the group went to Spooky and Peek-a-boo canyon while the rest of us lazy people and those of us with little babies who didn't want to hike 3 miles, just wandered around Devils garden

The rest of the pictures are all at Devils garden.

Spensor and Elijah climbing around
You cant really tell from this picture but this rock was about 10 feet high, I couldn't believe Bowen got up there
Crysania, Tate, Katie, and Aspen

Wow look at the muscles on these boys
Moroni and Sarah, she fell asleep as soon as we put her in the back pack and slept the whole way. Poor girl was sick the whole trip and slept most of the time.

We saw some great wild life while we were down there. A deer walked right by our camp on the first day, then when I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom there was a cottontail rabbit about 5 feet from me, at the devils garden we saw a jack rabbit, and the kids (and Uncle David) had a great time chasing lizards, Aspen even caught one for a while.

Can you spot the animals in these pictures?
