Escalante

It is that time of year again, The Benson family reunion is upon us!! This year we went to Escalante state park in southern Utah.

This was the view we had first driving into the park, you drive up a hill and around a corner and BOOM there is a beautiful lake right out of the blue. (pun intended) The water was freezing cold, but the kids didn't mind, they were out there playing in it anyway. If the water would have been warmer I might have even ventured out into it, the water was crystal clear, no mud in sight.

Elijah, Carter and Joshua, the terrible three. We had this great little spot right by our camp that was perfect for little boys to climb and explore in, and no way for them to escape and get lost since it was surrounded on three sides by steep walls.
Aspen and Jody sitting at camp
Meili, Melynda and Dad, hanging out
We really didn't plan on wearing matching shirts, but I had to get a picture of us as twiners.
Saturday we went to The Devils Garden. While we were driving there, Bowen asked what kinds of flowers were going to be there. At first I didn't understand what he was asking but then I realized he thought it was going to be a real garden. We had to laugh and say that the Devil doesn't grow anything and that is why it is called the devils garden, because all it grows is rocks.

Half of the group went to Spooky and Peek-a-boo canyon while the rest of us lazy people and those of us with little babies who didn't want to hike 3 miles, just wandered around Devils garden

The rest of the pictures are all at Devils garden.

Spensor and Elijah climbing around
You cant really tell from this picture but this rock was about 10 feet high, I couldn't believe Bowen got up there
Crysania, Tate, Katie, and Aspen

Wow look at the muscles on these boys
Moroni and Sarah, she fell asleep as soon as we put her in the back pack and slept the whole way. Poor girl was sick the whole trip and slept most of the time.

We saw some great wild life while we were down there. A deer walked right by our camp on the first day, then when I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom there was a cottontail rabbit about 5 feet from me, at the devils garden we saw a jack rabbit, and the kids (and Uncle David) had a great time chasing lizards, Aspen even caught one for a while.

Can you spot the animals in these pictures?

Wow I had no idea that lake was so pretty. That looks like so much fun. I can't wait to do a bunch of camping this summer... I hope.
